Covering Your Deck

You may want to cover your decks either wholly or partially; Whole cover should only be to prevent the rain thus the use of transparent plastic sheets or polythene paper recommended. Any other cover would make it lose its meaning. Partial can be done by covering select areas using the shades or outdoor umbrellas. Another form of partial shading is using plant to give shad to selected points.

In the shaded part the decision on which sealers to use is left to the owner, but my recommendation would be to you the same as the exposed areas. This because the shades do not offer hundred percent cover all through the day to the wood. In the morning the sun is in the east and in the afternoon it’s in the west thus the shade will automatically move exposing some parts respectively.

There is no question of changing the deck stains whether the place is shaded or not. The stain should be uniform to maintain same level of finishing. The décor could vary due to some being affected by the sunlight differently. Poor finishing, design and shade placement might make the whole concept fail.

The parts covered might still hold a better stain appearance in the time of reapplication. This would require more and vigorous use of deck cleaners. The points should be properly cleaned so that when the stain and sealers are applied they attain same intensity.
